PROFESSOR JAKE HARTNER
What made you get into martial arts?
I started martial arts when I was 16, I was consistently getting into trouble with the law and making bad decisions. At the time I didn’t have the best home life and I found a great escape at the academy I began training at.
Tell us about your journey/background/accomplishments?
My journey got me into teaching kids fairly quickly, I taught in the kids program for about six years before I started teaching adults as well. I loved competing right away and have done quite well at local tournaments, and have medalled at IBJJF opens.
What is your goal as a coach?
My secondary goal as a coach is to help people realize how valuable martial arts can be for mental and physical development. The most important goal in my mind is to make sure people have fun. It’s easy to focus on the wrong things and if you show up with the intent to learn and have fun you’ll make it to black belt, without a doubt.
What makes High Altitude Martial Arts special?
I think what makes High Altitude special is that we have a great community to support each other. I found this school in a really difficult time in my life and the friendships I have made truly changed my life and have made me a better man, as well as a better grappler and coach.
