Your Guide to Getting Started in Jiu Jitsu & Striking/Kickboxing
Whether you’re stepping onto the mats for the first time or helping your child begin their martial arts journey, we’re excited to welcome you to the High Altitude Martial Arts family. This guide will help you feel prepared, confident, and ready to get the most out of your first classes.
What to Wear & Bring
For Gi Jiu Jitsu:
- Athletic clothing (shorts with no pockets, leggings, t-shirt)
- Flip-flops or slides (to wear off the mat)
- Water bottle
- We provide loaner gis (uniforms) for your first two weeks.
- Ready to commit? We have a fully stocked retail shop where you can purchase your own gi and belt!
For Kickboxing & Striking
- Athletic workout wear (t-shirt or tank and leggings/shorts)
- Flip-flops or slides
- Water bottle
- Gloves are provided for your first two weeks.
- Gloves, hand wraps, and shinguards are available in our retail area for purchase when you’re ready.
For Parents of Kids Attending Class
We’re so glad your child is joining us! Here’s what you should know:
What to Bring:
- Flip-flops or slides
- Comfortable athletic wear (shorts, leggings, t-shirt)
- A good attitude and willingness to try something new!
Gear & Equipment
We make it easy to get fully equipped. Our retail area carries:
- Adult & Youth gis
- Gloves & hand wraps
- Rash guards, shorts, and spats
- Shinguards
Ask our front desk team if you need help finding the right fit or have questions about gear.
FINAL TIPS
- Please arrive 10-15 minutes early for your first class so we can show you around and get you checked in.
- All shoes must be removed before stepping onto the mats—this helps keep our training space clean and safe.
- Flip flops or slides must be worn off the mat, especially in the bathrooms.
- Hydrate before and after class.
- Don’t worry if you’re nervous—everyone starts somewhere, and we’re here to help you every step of the way!
