Summer break has come to an end and it’s time to get these children back in the routine. The first few weeks are hard as they adjust to bedtimes, early alarms, and getting back on a daily routine. Once they get into the groove, it’s time to add back in martial arts. Many families took the summer off to travel and to enjoy the time off together. Although you may feel overwhelmed with balancing school and their activities, they need it. And so do you.
Parents want to equip their children with tools for success in all areas of their life. They want them to tackle the world head on, with their head held high, and with confidence. We need to teach them how to bounce back from disappointment and how to stare struggles right in its face and persevere.
School can be a challenging place. Where children’s confidence is questioned, even their abilities. School pushes kids out of their comfort zones and it’s a place where they need to make decisions for themselves without our immediate guidance from their parents.
Parents need to give their children tools of success: skills such as confidence, focus, and perseverance. Martial arts can help provide such tools. Martial arts enhances children’s lives physically, socially, emotionally, and academically. Check out these 5 ways our academy can help your child this school year!
Discipline
Martial arts teaches discipline. And that discipline translates to life at school and life at home. Children must learn and practice self discipline. They can either choose to focus, learn, and engage or they can choose not to. It is teaching kids to do what they should be doing even if they may not want to do it. Discipline and self control help children focus so they can reach their goals.
Confidence
Children will face challenges. Our goal is to give them tools to overcome those challenges. And how to handle their emotions while conquering challenges. Grit is something that will give students the power to overcome obstacles. Children who are confident are less likely to be bullied. Help you children build up their self esteem. They should be proud of who they are.
Focus
Imagine being a child trying to focus at school. There is so much going on at any given time. Martial arts teaches kids to focus on the task at hand. They learn how to erase the noise and chaos around them. Being able to breathe and be mindful is a powerful skill to have.
Respect
Children learn and practice respect at the academy. They follow rules like bowing on and off the mat, when and when not to wear shoes, they address coaches by title. They are respectful of the mat and the other children on the mat. They respect each other’s personal space. Children learn to value all people whether it be coaches, teachers, teammates, opponents, and parents. We also teach children to respect oneself. We teach them to stand up for themselves and for others.
Pride
Martial arts teaches kids to own their actions. Learning to take ownership at a young age is essential for creating strong relationships. Taking pride in everything you do will help you achieve in life. When children learn that their achievements, and their failures are all based on their effort, they can take responsibility for their actions and make the right choices instead of placing blame elsewhere. They learn they are in control of their decisions and their actions.
We know these next few weeks are going to be tough. And we can help with that transition. Bring your children in to try a class and you we see the results for yourself.
