Girl Scout Troop 60724 took an introductory jiu jitsu lesson from three wonderful teachers, Maddie Mitchell, Melissa Meyers, and Kristine Bartholomew. They learned mat etiquette, how to fall and how to get back up. The girls worked on how to protect themselves from bullies, how to change the roles, if they are attacked and how to escape.
Not only did they teachers show them these new skills, but they entertained the girls with stories, and even a mock jiu jitsu match. The lesson was a month ago, but the girls still talk about it and have actually been practicing the self-defense moves on each other and their siblings.
Everyone, especially our young, should learn how to protect themselves in case they ever find themselves in a dangerous situation. I contacted High Altitude Martial Arts and they welcomed us into their gym! They volunteered their time and facility to empower our youth. We had a ton of fun and learned so much.
Big thanks!!
