Whether you have been training for 3 months or 3 years, everyone needs motivation to continue their martial arts journey. Read some tips below!
Set Attainable and Measurable Goals
A few weeks ago, someone stopped in the gym and told me they have zero martial arts experience but wanted to have 3 MMA fights by the time they turned 27 which was in about 18 months. I admire the ambition. I encourage setting the bar high for yourself. Although, the goal may need to be more realistic and fluid.
Setting smaller, more attainable and measurable goals will help you reach your ultimate goal. It’s also encouraging and satisfying to crush those goals, no matter how small they may seem.
Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder
Taking a break from something you love, will make you miss it, even if it’s just for a week. Allow yourself…and body to recharge and recover. Your mind and body will thank you. You will find a refreshed love for martial arts and you’ll be eager to get back on the mats. Just don’t take too long of a break or it will be really hard to get back into the routine.
Change Things Up
We are creatures of habit. Things can get mundane and start to feel like groundhog day. Changing up your routine slightly can be refreshing and challenging. Great satisfaction can come from achieving something out of the norm. This can also include changing up your partners, sharpening new tools, or trying out new moves. Because High Altitude is the Easton Aurora location, you are able to cross train at any of the other locations across Colorado. This is a huge benefit. You get to add variety in your training schedule and partners which will continue to keep things new and fresh.
If You Walk Like A Duck and Talk Like a Duck…You Are A Duck
Surround yourself with like minded individuals. There is strength in numbers. Their strength and encouragement helps you stay motivated. Having good training partners will continue to push you to move forward. They’ll be there to push you when you need it and you’ll be able to return the favor.
Just Do It
Push yourself to go train especially on the days when you don’t really feel up to it. Those days tend to end up being the best training days. Murphy’s Law right?! Hold yourself accountable. Have your ducks in #4 hold you accountable. Keep showing up and working towards your goals.
