When parents hear Kids MMA, they sometimes picture the MMA they see on TV. But a quality youth MMA program is very different. Kids MMA is about giving children a well-rounded martial arts education by combining two highly effective disciplines: Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing.
At High Altitude Martial Arts, kids learn age-appropriate techniques in a structured environment focused on confidence, discipline, fitness, and having fun.
What Is Kids MMA?
MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts. Instead of training in only one martial art, students develop skills in multiple areas.
Our Kids MMA training combines:
Jiu Jitsu – Kids learn grappling, takedowns, positional control, escapes, and submissions in a safe and controlled setting. Jiu-Jitsu teaches students how to stay calm under pressure, solve problems, and use technique rather than relying on size or strength.
Kickboxing – Kids learn proper stance, movement, punches, kicks, combinations, defense, and footwork. Training develops coordination, balance, speed, conditioning, and confidence.
Together, Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing give kids a strong foundation in both grappling and striking.
More Than Learning How to Fight
The biggest benefits of Kids MMA often happen outside of the gym.
Martial arts gives children opportunities to work through challenges, listen to coaches, practice with teammates, and learn that improvement takes consistency.
Over time, training can help develop:
- Confidence
- Discipline and focus
- Coordination and athleticism
- Physical fitness
- Problem-solving skills
- Respect for coaches and teammates
- Resilience
- Self-defense skills
Kids also learn an important lesson: knowing martial arts doesn’t mean looking for a fight. Good training emphasizes self-control, respect, and knowing when to walk away.
Is Kids MMA Safe?
Youth MMA training should always be designed specifically for children.
At High Altitude Martial Arts, the goal isn’t to have kids simply imitate adult MMA fighters. Techniques, drills, and intensity are adjusted for the student’s age and experience level. Coaches emphasize proper technique, controlled training, and being a good training partner.
Students can challenge themselves while learning in a positive and structured environment.
Why Combine Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing?
Training both gives kids a much broader martial arts skill set.
Kickboxing teaches them how to move, maintain distance, defend themselves, and strike effectively. Jiu-Jitsu teaches them what to do when someone grabs them or when a situation goes to the ground.
More importantly, both disciplines teach kids how to stay composed when they’re uncomfortable or under pressure.
That confidence can carry over into school, sports, friendships, and everyday life.
