Colorado Wolverines PGF Qualifier #1 Delivers Elite Grappling Action at High Altitude Martial Arts
High Altitude Martial Arts was honored to host the Colorado Wolverines PGF Qualifier #1, bringing together many of the region’s top submission grapplers for an exciting day of no-gi competition. Athletes competed for more than tournament victories—they were battling for a coveted invitation to the Professional Grappling Federation (PGF) Season 10 Draft.
With packed brackets at 145, 155, 170, 185, and 205 pounds, spectators witnessed nonstop action, technical grappling, and several breakout performances from both seasoned PGF veterans and Colorado’s rising talent.
Colorado Athletes Rise to the Occasion
One of the biggest storylines of the tournament was the strength of Colorado’s local grappling community. Several hometown competitors scored impressive victories over experienced PGF veterans, proving that the state’s talent continues to grow.
Outstanding performances from Matthew Hendren, Riley Golden, Marcus Wilson, and Robert Parrish highlighted the depth of Colorado grappling and demonstrated that local athletes are ready to compete with anyone.
Returning PGF Veterans Shine
Familiar faces also made deep tournament runs.
At 185 pounds, returning Wolverines Brett Moyer and Sam Schwartzapfel advanced through the bracket before meeting in the championship match. In the 170-pound division, Clay Wimer, Caleb Crump, and Anakin McMahan showcased why they have become recognizable names within the PGF.
Former Las Vegas PGF competitors also made their mark, with Juan Martinez capturing the 145-pound title and JJ Bowers making an impressive semifinal run.
Semifinals Filled with Drama
Several semifinal matches were incredibly close, forcing officials into lengthy deliberations before announcing the winners. The narrow victories reflected just how evenly matched many of the competitors were and added even more excitement leading into the championship rounds.
A Memorable 155-Pound Final
Arguably the deepest division of the tournament, the 155-pound bracket featured multiple accomplished competitors and several returning PGF athletes.
In a surprise championship matchup, Colorado academy owners Robert Parrish and Marcus Wilson advanced to the finals. Their technical, methodical grappling contrasted with the fast-paced style often associated with PGF competition, creating a strategic battle that showcased high-level positional control and experience.
Championship Results
145 Pounds
Juan Martinez captured the title with a decision victory over Diego Ortiz, ending Ortiz’s impressive submission streak and earning his place in the PGF Draft.
155 Pounds
Robert Parrish defeated Marcus Wilson by decision after an outstanding tournament run that included victories over several talented opponents.
170 Pounds
Clay Wimer earned the championship with a decision win over top-seeded Caleb Crump. Wimer finished as one of the tournament’s highest scorers after recording multiple submissions throughout the day.
185 Pounds
Returning Wolverine Brett Moyer defeated teammate Sam Schwartzapfel by decision in an exciting championship match between two familiar PGF competitors.
205 Pounds
Aaron Tiegs delivered one of the most dominant performances of the event, submitting every opponent he faced before finishing Brandon George in the finals to secure the championship.
