At High Altitude Martial Arts, striking isn’t just about throwing punches and kicks—it’s about learning how to move with purpose, defend yourself with skill, and train like a complete martial artist.
Whether you’re looking to compete, get in the best shape of your life, or just build confidence through real technique, our striking program offers something for everyone. Led by experienced coaches and rooted in a culture of discipline and growth, it’s one of the most dynamic striking environments in Colorado.
What We Offer: A Well-Rounded Striking System
At High Altitude Martial Arts, our striking program is designed to develop adaptable, intelligent fighters. We don’t just teach you how to hit—we teach you how to think, move, and perform under pressure. What sets us apart is our integrated curriculum, which blends multiple striking disciplines into a cohesive, progressive system.
This approach builds fight IQ and physical skill simultaneously, ensuring students of all levels learn how to flow between techniques and adapt to real-time situations.
Let’s take a deeper look at what you’ll experience:
Kickboxing & Muay Thai
Our program draws heavily from both Western kickboxing and traditional Muay Thai, giving students a strong, versatile foundation.
You’ll start by learning how to throw technically sound punches, kicks, elbows, and knees, then build on that foundation by learning how to put them together in meaningful combinations. We emphasize not just offense, but smart defensive strategy—like how to use footwork to control distance, how to check low kicks, how to counter off angles, and how to maintain composure in the pocket.
A key component of Muay Thai that we emphasize is the clinch. Students learn to control posture, deliver knees, sweep opponents, and neutralize aggression with technique—not brute strength. This aspect of training is essential for those who may want to transition into MMA, or simply want to develop a more complete striking skill set.
Drills, padwork, partner work, and optional controlled sparring sessions give students a chance to apply their skills in a live, realistic setting—without pressure or ego.
Boxing Fundamentals
Boxing is the art of clean, efficient striking—and it’s central to our curriculum.
Students learn to master the fundamentals: the jab, cross, hook, and uppercut—along with the subtle elements that elevate a striker’s game: timing, angle changes, level changes, and feints.
Head movement and footwork are taught not just as reactions, but as part of a full defensive strategy. You’ll learn how to slip, roll, pivot, and shift your stance to create opportunities or escape danger. These tools are critical in both sport and self-defense situations, and we teach them with a focus on control, precision, and adaptability.
We incorporate bag work, pad rounds, partner drills, and live movement drills to reinforce these habits in a dynamic and engaging way. For students who want to push their skill further, we offer opportunities for technical sparring and boxing-focused training blocks.
MMA Striking Integration
This is where our program truly stands apart.
For students looking to compete—or simply understand the full picture of striking in a fight—we offer training that bridges the gap between stand-up and grappling. In our MMA-focused striking sessions, you’ll learn how to:
- Strike in and out of takedown range
- Use the cage effectively for defense or offense
- Transition seamlessly between punches, kicks, level changes, and clinch positions
- Apply ground-and-pound principles from top control
- Manage posture and distance while striking on the ground
You’ll also learn how to defend against the common threats you’ll encounter in MMA: level change feints, double legs, wall pins, and clinch breaks. This integration is a core part of our curriculum and is overseen by coaches who have real cage experience at the professional level.
Whether your goal is to compete in MMA, enhance your Jiu-Jitsu with effective stand-up, or simply become a well-rounded martial artist, this training provides a complete system to help you succeed.
