If you are looking to try out a new workout that could help you reach your goal of losing weight, improving endurance, or even if you are in search of a new hobby, then I encourage you to try kickboxing at High Altitude Martial Arts. I have been training here for a total of 2 years and in my time here I have learned a lot about myself and was able to help reach some of my own personal goals. One of the many goals that I have accomplished from training in kickboxing here at HAMA was improving my endurance.

1. Endurance

Ever since I was little, if I had to do a lot of movement such as 10 burpees, I would find myself to be extremely gassed out. But when I became introduced to kickboxing here at the gym, I was greeted with great coaches who were able to help me improve my endurance by pushing me to my limits and improving my overall endurance which really benefited my own well-being. They start slow and your endurance increases over time. Pushing yourself a little each class goes a long way in improving your endurance.

2. Weight Loss

If you are looking to lose weight, then I also suggest trying out kickboxing. When I first began, I was a college football player that weighed 190, and now I weigh 160! This was from me coming in 3 times a week. Not only did I lose 30 pounds, I also toned my muscles. Kickboxing works out different parents of my body in a way that convention work outs did not. My core was worked with every punch and every kick. It is much more fun to work on weight lose with friends then running alone on a treadmill.

3. Self Defense

I have retained a lot of knowledge that can help me if I ever find myself in a dangerous encounter on the street. Being able to defend yourself is not something all workouts are able to provide you, but it is something that everyone should know how to do. Kickboxing at HAMA provides you with an opportunity to not only get a great workout but teach you the self-defense you need to know to feel confident in situations. Learning how to block a punch or kick can save your life. The muscle memory you build will kick in when you are in a fight or flight situation.

4. Improve Blood Pressure

If you are looking to improve your blood pressure or the overall condition of your heart, then high intensity workouts such as kickboxing would be great for you. Training at HAMA has improved my blood pressure so much so that when I went back to school and we were testing EKGs, I was voted as the student whose results were the best. I was even used as the example as to what your hearts regular feedback should look like. Kickboxing will get your heart pumping and blood flowing. It’s a great way to jump start your day to give you the energy you need to tackle the day. It’s also a great way to tire yourself out in the evening, just in time for a good nights rest to recover your body and mind.

5. Positive Energy

Kickboxing at HAMA has also helped boost my positive energy. When I first came to the gym, I was dealing with many problems in my life such as school and family drama, but after my first visit to High Altitude Martial Arts a flame instantly lit inside of me and gave me a new passion. The most amazing part of kickboxing at HAMA would be the family that came with it. This helped me stay motivated because not only did I learn new skills for my day-to-day life, but I was also able to build a second family which is what I really needed then. Having a community that supports me is huge for my mental game as I’m working on my physical game.

6. Stress Releiver

Kickboxing is also a great stress reliever due to the amount of focus that is needed. There have been times where I have had a long rough day at work and was in a bad mood on the drive over to the gym, but every time I leave the gym after my kickboxing class, I always feel ten times happier. Kicking and punching feels good. It allows you to release that built up tension and all the worries on your mind, even if only for a short period of time. You are doing something for you, filling your cup, and you leave feeling great and renewed.

7. Self Esteem

Kickboxing has boosted my self-esteem and helped me feel like the best version of myself. I am proud of myself when I learn something new, when I take class even though I don’t really feel like it. I competed in my first smoker and it was the biggest adrenaline rush I’ve ever had. I am happy with the way I look and feel.

Kickboxing at High Altitude Martial Arts has provided me so many good experiences and has given me a new workout that I love. Everyone should come in to try one class and I promise you will be hooked.
